Point- every night is different, stats don’t mean crap
I prefer the age old saying:
"statistics are a drunk man's lamp post"

And yes, it's true that stats will not dictate the outcome of the game. Nobody's arguing that.

however, shots on goal are not necessarily reflective of 5 on 5 offensive zone dominance. A more accurate gage would be 5 on 5 attack zone time
Ok, so you're threading the needle here. Most of the time SOG is an excellent indicator of attack zone dominance.

Occasionally, you'll get games where the offensive unit spends a lot of time in the attack zone but, doesn't get many pucks on net.

However, in the case of the Flyers/Habs series, the latter is clearly not true. Montreal not only generated SOG, & excellent scoring chances but, they also spent a great deal of time in Philly's zone.

Lastly, Philly (in games 2,3,& 4) did not show any kind of attack zone dominance. They did however utilize outlet passes and odd-man rushes to their benefit.

In the end, Biron was their saving grace in games 2, 3, & 4. Anyone watching the series in its entirety knows this to be true.

And who is this Jaime retard? What comments stopped? More importantly, why are you such a delusional, scatterbrained dipshit?

Again, a real hockey fan knows the value of shots per game. Shots per game shows how much time the offensive shifts spent in the opposing team’s zone. A better team generates more shots because they spend a great deal of time in the opposing end. Seriously Paul, that’s pretty much hockey 101 you retarded pinhead.

Of all the trash talking on this site, this has been statistically based, however, shots on goal are not necessarily reflective of 5 on 5 offensive zone dominance. A more accurate gage would be 5 on 5 attack zone time. And everyone should know that just because a team is better on paper does not mean they are better on the ice. A key reason All Star teams fail. Here is an anology:

If a goal tender save percentage is .900 over a 4 game loosing series sweep, he (just say) let in 7 goals on 70 shots, averaging 17.5 shots per game. 90% would be good, but you still lost. Comparatively if (same series) the winning goalie lets 3 in on 28 series shots his save percentage is .892. On paper, the loosing goalie was better, therefore his team should've won. Point- every night is different, stats don't mean crap.

I know I made good points. Now I just have to figure out how to penetrate your thick skull more efficiently so I don’t wind up with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Give me a break. You love debating (especially at great length).

And the Flyers only winning those very same games by 1 goal after those “commanding” leads only goes to show the Flyers haven’t controlled the Habs nor the series at any point.

One of those games was because of a terrible penalty taken in the 3rd period.

Listen, you made your points (lots of good points too). I just think differently on some topics. This argument is pretty much over.

And, before you start crying like a little bitch. I'm not counting the empty net goal from last night. For purposes of comparing teams, there's no reason to add empty net goals into the equation.

Game 3 and Game 4 were both 1 goal victories for argumentative purposes.

The Flyers taking a commanding lead in every game is great

And the Flyers only winning those very same games by 1 goal after those "commanding" leads only goes to show the Flyers haven't controlled the Habs nor the series at any point.

You can say that it is only because Biron is so good and the Canadiens goalie has been so bad but that’s your opinion

No, that's common fucking sense from anyone watching the series (especially the last 2 games & definitely last night's game) and anyone who knows hockey.

You say the Canadiens have controlled every game of this series
Actually I never said that at any point.
My point is not that the Habs have controlled the series, it's that the Flyers haven't.

I say that the Flyers have been better 5 on 5 and need to cut down on the penalties to put the series away

And I say, you're a stupid ass baboon who doesn't know jack-shit about hockey, simply based on those asinine conclusions.

Face it, you don't know enough about the sport to make sound predictions. Even worse? You try and pretend like you do. Stick to sports you do know so you don't embarrass your fellow Flyer fans. Capiche?

Just out of curiosity, how many of those were you actually alive to see?

BTW, you’re not gonna win the Stanley Cup either this year. Keep getting that boost of confidence in you!!!

I never said they would. As a matter of fact, I didn't think they would beat the Habs in a seven game series (and they haven't yet) and I don't think they will beat the Pens. I just enjoy watching you eat crow.

Wow Derf, You just need to write 800 paragraphs after I said we will have to just disagree. You can't make me agree with you. Get over it. Even the Habs coach has said his team needs to be better 5 on 5.

Because by no means has Osgood been Detroit’s saving grace.
What about the Pittsburgh-Rangers series? Do you really think the main reason Pittsburgh is winning the series is because of Fleury?

Yeah, because if those guys weren't playing well then Pittsburgh and Detroit would still be winning practically every game. I'm sure you know those two guys are leading in Goals Against Average and Save Percentage too. I said goalie play is extremely important. Let me edit my statement so that you don't zone in on it all over again. "Goalie play is always a big reason why teams remain in the playoffs. The outcome of a lot of Flyers games came directly from goalie play in the playoffs while other teams haven't needed to depend on it as much" I'm sure you will figure out a way to tear that a part.

You're obviously big on hockey. I'm more baseball and football but that doesn't mean I can't disagree with the almighty Hockey God himself. I am happy with the way the Flyers have handled the Canadiens and of course Biron is important going up against teams with such great offensive power but he can only stop goals. The Flyers taking a commanding lead in every game is great. You can say that it is only because Biron is so good and the Canadiens goalie has been so bad but that's your opinion.

With all of that being said, let it go. You say the Canadiens have controlled every game of this series and Biron has been our saving grace. I say that the Flyers have been better 5 on 5 and need to cut down on the penalties to put the series away. If most other hockey fans would disagree with me then fine. It's not that big of a deal.
