Although I have been a Philadelphia sports fan my whole life I think
your website is great. I am sick and tired of all the people around
here crying like they are owed something. Keep up the good work. The
thing that really gets me is every team always gives tributes to the
past championship teams…give it a rest that was the past stop living
in it. From a frustrated but realistic Philly sports fans (not the
Flyers because hockey isn’t a real sport and Flyers fans are the
biggest pussies)

“because hockey isn’t a real sport”
Really? And how did you come to that brilliant conclusion Einstein? (Oh, and spare me the popularity bullshit spiel). And if TV ratings determine what a “real” sport is, then my guess is that soccer is as “real” as it gets.

    Moving on…
Most people I know who dislike hockey are avid basketball fans and always spout how popular it is. Well, I did some checking and since 2002, it seems that hockey fans tend to fill more seats than basketball fans. I used the NBA because they play in the very same arenas and have about the same amount of home games in a season.

Don’t believe me? Go check out ESPN’s attendance records for the NHL and NBA since 2002. Take a close look at the Seat fill PCT column of Home games fill capacity.

    And…
Amazingly enough, the 71,217+ people who showed up at the ’08 Winter Classic seemed to think hockey was a real sport.
Anyways, it seems to me that only ignorant, uneducated window lickers base the authenticity of a sport on it’s TV ratings and popularity. Maybe they’re just jealous of hockey fan’s zeal and loyalty to the sport regardless of the status quo?

When did hockey stop being a sport? This is news to me. What is it called now?

And what the hell is wrong with giving tribute to a past championship? Should the Cowboys stop giving tribute to their 5 SB titles because it’s in the past? That’s like saying that we should stop honoring dead family members cause they are in the past. There is nothing wrong with remembering the history of a franchise.
