Subject: Someone stop Billy King before it’s too lateBill Simmons of ESPN predicted we’d get 50 cents on the dollar for Allen Iverson. I would have been happy with that. Instead, we got 30 cents.
I cannot understand how Billy King has a job in pro-sports. For 8 years, he unsuccessfully tried to surround Allen Iverson with the right supporting cast to get the toughest pound-for-pound player a championship. He’s brought us ham and eggers the likes of Glenn Robinson, Kenny Thomas, Chris Webber, Dikembe Mutombo and others. He’s drafted Jiri Welsch, Thabo Sefolosha and Pacellis Morlende, whoever those guys are. He’s passed on the following players (with his selection in parentheses); 1998-Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Pierce, Ricky Davis, Al Harrington (Larry Hughes), 1999-Manu Ginobili (Todd MacCulloch), 2000- Morris Peterson, Michael Redd (Speedy Claxton), 2001-Jamaal Tinsley, Tony Parker, Gilbert Arenas (Sam Dalembert), 2002-Tayshaun Prince, Nenad Krstic, Carlos Boozer, Flip Murray, Darius Songaila (Jiri Welsch), 2004-Sebastian Telfair, J.R. Smith, Jameer Nelson, Kevin Martin (Andre Iguodala).
The only thing Billy is good at is overpaying and putting us so far back in terms of the salary cap that he makes Scott Layden’s signing of Allan Houston look like a stroke of genius. Does anyone remember the Matt Geiger contract? The Mutombo deal? The Kenny Thomas golden parachute? Or, how about his ability to get rid of good young players, like Claxton, Hughes, etc., before they’ve properly matured? Someone please call Pat Williams and bring him back now. Hell, I’d settle for Montel Williams.
If this guy handles our next draft, which is considered one of the deepest in the last few years, we are putting the future of this once proud franchise in the hands of a madman with poor knowledge of scouting, drafting, payroll management, public relations, general intellect, etc., etc., etc.
Until he his removed from his post, I will just continue to believe that he has some ‘compromising photos’ of Ed Snider, for who I also have no love lost.
